Pitching & Throwing Elbow Injury Basics

Pitching Elbow Injury Overview
The elbow is a hinge joint (although it's really more than a single joint). Like a hinge on a cabinet door it's meant to open (extend) and close (flex). Although hinges have a little play, side to side, they are not designed to move in this direction. These side to side forces are exactly how baseball pitching places stress on the elbow. As the pitching forearm bounces and rebounds, accentuated by the weight and momentum of the baseball, the UCL (shown in red) takes huge loads acting as a literal springboard.

The act of throwing as we know it is anatomically flawed. RPMā„¢ and Rotational Pitching Mechanics changes how the pitching elbow is used.
